Alex Burjan
My journey into Exercise Physiology began when my Mum sat me down at the tender age of 16 and rather ominously said to me, ‘whatever you do, do not become a musician’. Given I come from a line of talented career musicians, this came as something of a shock.
Needless to say, I followed my mother’s sage advice and enrolled into Exercise and Sports Science at the University of New South Wales to pursue a career around my other great passion, sport. After my first year in this degree, I discovered that I had far more interest in working with everyday people than I did working with athletes. I then transferred into a Bachelor of Exercise Physiology, and have only looked back once or twice since then.
Over the course of my career, I have had the privilege of working with a wide variety of people with an even wider variety of injuries and health conditions. While I enjoy working with any and all conditions, I’ve developed a keen interest in the treatment of chronic pain and musculoskeletal injuries (perhaps as a result of rolling one too many ankles). I endeavour to make treatment fun, accessible, and inclusive for all, while also focusing on achieving the best outcomes for you.
I am always happy to have a chat, so if you’d like to discuss how I might best be able to help you achieve your health goals, or to simply tell me how awful a basketball team the Orlando Magic are, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I can be reached at alex.burjan@ep360.com.au.
Gareth Ingerson
Hello there, my name is Gareth Ingerson and I’m an Exercise Physiologist with 7 years of experience working within private practice, NGO’s and community based organisations. My experience has covered a wide range of clients, conditions and scenarios within the allied health profession. I have worked with all age groups from two years of age, young people, adults and seniors as wise as 100 years of age.
I have worked extensively in the aged care sector, allowing me to experience what it is like to age gracefully, healthily and with joy. The human body is a marvellous system, though there are speed bumps that obscure our journey from time to time. Whether it is a condition that is well known and has extensive research to treat, or a complex progressive disorder that requires continuous care; exercise is one of the most successful modalities by which we can treat, cure or slow down most conditions.
In order to achieve the best possible outcomes, my personal philosophy and passion centres around the goals of our clients. My experience within the mental health field has allowed me to build further on my interpersonal skills, as we all have different ways we like to communicate our personal and vulnerable information. Our setting at the Five dock gym is a great place to come and exercise. My mission is to make this environment accessible to any and all people. Whatever your goal is, we can work together to obtain your desired outcome. Whether you are motivated, require a little push or are contemplating your future with your health goals, I would be more than happy to have a conversation about what we can do to help you at EP360. I can be reached at gareth.ingerson@ep360.com.au.
Chris Dounis
Hey there - my name is Chris and I am one of the Exercise Physiologists at EP360. My personal journey into Exercise Physiology came after a fairly long period of contemplation about what I would do with my life after High School. When I was much younger, I played a lot of sport and always had a strong interest in health and wellbeing in general and this lead me to studying a Diploma of Nutrition. I quickly realised, however, that exercise and physical activity was more my thing, so I enrolled into the Degree of Exercise Physiology at UNSW and the rest, as they say is history.
I have been an Exercise Physiologist for almost 15 years, back at a time when almost no one knew what an Exercise Physiologist was. So, I have seen my industry and profession change quite a lot and it has been an amazing journey to be a part of.
My professional interests mainly revolve around behaviour change and creating new habits that lead to the best health outcome that our clients can garner. That being said, most of my professional development has been in Behaviour Change Counselling and Motivational Interviewing and this is really at the core of what I enjoy doing.
More than anything, however, I like to help people to be the best that they can be, physically, mentally and physiologically. Whether you are suffering from chronic pain, have an underlying health or chronic disease or just need some help getting started with an exercise program that fits for you and your life, I’m here to help. I can be reached at chris@ep360.com.au.
